WORD OF LIFE MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL AKA WORD OF LIFE CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP
|
MESSAGE-FROM THE FOUNDING PRESIDENT
Word of Life Ministries International (WOLMI) was established with a God given
mandate To Bring Transformation To The Nations. "You may ask - Why be
concerned? - Is it possible to turn back the tides of starvation, poverty,
recession, unemployment and civil wars? To this we must reply.":
Dr. Phillip Phinn
"For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to
drink. I was a stranger and you did not invited me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothes
me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me".
God expects us to use the abilities and resources He has given us to relieve this ills of our
fellow men and thus make this world a better place.
I was addressing a group of recovering addicts and asked them to give reasons why the
problems in our inner cities cannot be solved. For thirty minutes their minds went into
reverse gear giving all the possible reasons why things cannot change.
For the next thirty minutes I then asked them to put their minds in forward gear and give all the
possible solutions to turn things around in the inner cities. One could scarcely believe the
positive ideas coming out of these people who a half an hour before said there was no way
out.
I have discovered a key principle - the "how to do it", always comes to the person who
believes he can do it.'
Now if our minds are capable of putting a man on the moon and air planes in the skies -
consider what we can achieve when we add to that ability and faith in God.
MISSION STATEMENT
WOLMI is committed in its mission to match purpose and power with skills in the participatory
development of nations.
The organization's primary area of focus is sustainable development through micro and
small business development, environment protection, education and youth programmes,
poverty eradication and the protection of human rights.
PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT
WOLMI recognizes the significance of the Christian Community as a resourceful stabilizing
entity within the society and its spiritual, moral and professional responsibility to foster
national development.
Christian Organizations, together with other Non Governmental Organizations ( NGOs) must
rally collaboratively to alleviate the plight of the socially deprived, the economically
disadvantaged and the functionally illiterate. WOLMI does not expect Civil Government on its
own to administer the welfare of the poor and the dispossessed.
The empowerment of a people depends on the sense of freedom within each individual
through personal faith in God. WOLMI strives to be a liberating force for the people, a uniting
influence between desperate groups and a defender of the Christian conscience of the
Nation.
WOLMI is motivated by the conviction that Jamaica can, under God, be an example to the
nations and to the world of nations, and so become a catalyst for development in other
countries.
HISTORY
Word of Life Christian Fellowship (WOLCF), a church with a world vision was established on
November 10, 1985 in Kingston, Jamaica. WOLMI is the International arm of WOLCF working
to fulfill the vision of bringing transformation to the nations
WOLCF was granted special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council
(ECOSOC)of the United Nations on November 19,1996.
The Mustard Seed Principle was developed through WOLMI and is widely accepted among
many Jamaica groups. The Mustard Seed Principle is a biblical principle instructing people
to start with the little resources in hand to achieve their vision. Dr. Phillip Phinn began to
present this principle in other countries in the Caribbean Region and worldwide. This
opened the door for representatives to participate at two major United Nations meetings, the
First UN Global Conference on Sustainable Development for Small Island Developing States
(Barbados, 1994) and the UN World Summit for Social Development (Denmark 1995).
WOLMI is concerned with the spiritual, social and economic well-being of mankind and is
